Microdermabrasion Treatment
Dermatology Associates of Winchester Microdermabrasion
Consultation – Microdermabrasion Consultation
Dermatology Associates offers a free consultation with our laser nurse to determine whether or not a patient is a good candidate for microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion has been performed in Dermatology for many years. It is still one of the most popular procedures in cosmetic dermatology. At your consultation our nurse will explain the procedure benefits and help you decide if microdermabrasion will achieve your desired results. This procedure can improve many skin surface conditions by stripping old dead skin cells and stimulating new cells. By stimulating collagen production, microdermabrasion can gradually improve the appearance of skin texture with virtually no recovery period.
Procedure – Microdermabrasion Procedure
The microdermabrasion unit is a device that directs micronized crystals onto the skin. In the hands of an experienced technician, this stream of crystals can be used to abrade the outermost skin cells. A small vacuum removes the crystals along with the outermost layer of skin. It is the combination of the exfoliating and suctioning processes that produces the desired effect.
Patients who repeat the procedure not only benefit from an immediate refreshing of the skin but will gradually see additional textural improvement with each treatment. The procedure takes 15-20 minutes and produces a slight scratching sensation. Many patients describe the vacuuming sensation as a facial massage.
Recovery – Microdermabrasion Recovery
Microdermabrasion is a “no downtime” procedure. In fact, patients love how their skin feels and looks immediately after the procedure. There are no restrictions after the procedure except to use good sun protection. The nurse can review your current skin regimen products and decide if you should temporarily refrain from using them. Make-up can be applied immediately after this procedure.
